Falcons Win: 7 - 2
The West Girls finished the conference season with another convincing win over Comstock Park,7-2, to complete the 3 game season series sweep. Behind strong the strong pitching of Juniors Becca Tuck and Maria Markules, CP was held to 2 runs.
Junior Dana Wila hit a key home run over the right/center field fence to lead the offensive attack. Becca Tuck continued her torid hitting, going 3 for 4 with 2 doubles and Bella Bailey hit a solid triple in the 7th inning to ignite the Falcon Crowd.
Was a great regular season performance and has the Falcons going into this weekend's district tournament with plenty of momentum.

Double header at home with Comstock Park:
West squeaked out this 10-9 opening game battle with Comstock Park, finishing them off with the bases loaded in the top of the 7th inning. The game started hot for West with 5 runs being scored in the 1st inning. The top of the order ... all 5 players, started out with hits, lead by Sophomore Bella Bailey's double driving in 2 runs. Hitting stars for the game included Morgan Hipp with 2 doubles and 2 runs scored, and up and coming future star player, sophomore Paige Jewell, with 2 hits.
Game 2 was completely different as West started out the gate again with 4 runs in the 1st inning and never took backed off, winning 16 - 3. Truly an "All Star player", Dana Wila lead the offensive assault going 4 for 4 with 2 doubles and 4 runs scored, Annika Roersma going 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored, Morgan Hipp getting on base multiple ways and scoring 3 runs.
Becca Tuck pitched another gem, limiting CP to 3 runs. Defense was flawless, giving Tuck the support she needed to finish CP off.

Double header at home with Comstock Park:

West won this double header with Hopkins at home on the first hot night of the spring.
Game 1 was an exciting come from behind victory , 9-6. After taking an early 2-0 lead behind Dana Wila's Home Run Shot over the left field fence, The West fell behind 6-2 going into the bottom of the 5th. West come back was lead by Senior Megan Beekman's double ...driving in 2 runs. Junior Dan Wila put on another hitting clinic, going 3-4 with 2 singles, a home run, and 2 runs scored. Senior Morgan Hipp created havoc for the opponents on the bases, scoring 3 runs and Sophomore Annika Roersma hit a bomb triple in the 6th inning, driving in 2 runs and putting the game away.
In Game 2, the bats exploded in the 1st inning, and when the dust settled, 14 runs were on the board. Lead by Dana Wila's lead off home run, the hitting was contagious. Annika Roersma hit a home run and 9 total hits for the inning were registered. For the game, Dana Wila went 3 for 3 with 3 runs scored, Morgan Hipp went 2 for 2 with a walk and 3 runs scored, Becca Tuck went 3 for 3 with 3 runs scored, Senior Megan Beekman went 2 for 2 with a massive home run over the right center field fence that nearly flew onto the Boys field. Junior Lauren Kubiak came in the game as a pinch hitter, and knocked a double to the left center field gap.
The final score was 19-1.This team continues to prove to be one of the best hitting teams for West in recent years.
Becca Tuck pitched a solid 3 innings to shut down Hopkins hitters and complete the double header sweep.

Falcons Win: 19 - 1
The West Catholic Varsity Girls put on an impressive display of hitting, pitching and fielding in sweeping a double header with Hopkins at Falcon field.
In Game 1, the game went back and forth with West taking an early lead on Junior Dana Wila's 3rd inning home run. Hopkins responded with 6 runs in the 5th to take a 6-2 lead. In the bottom of the 5th, the Falcons scored 3 runs lead with Senior Megan Beekman 2 RBI double, making the score 6-5 going into the 6th. In the bottom of the 6th, West put up 4 more runs lead by Sophomore Annika Roersma's base clearing triple. Junior Becca Tuck pitched a gutty game and shut down the Hopkins team the final 2 innings for a 9-6 win.
In Game 2, the Lady Falcon's put on an offensive show that would put them in an elite class of softball players at West, hitting 3 home runs and scoring 14 runs in the first inning. Dana Wila lead off the game with a home run and was followed by dingers from Annika Roersma and Megan Beekman. Offensive leaders for the game included Wila, who went 3 for 3 and scoring 3 runs, continuing to show she is one of the areas best players. Senior Morgan Hipp went 2 for 2 scoring 3 runs, Becca Tuck went 3 for 3 with 3 runs, Sophomore Paige Jewell went 2 for 3 with a double and 3 runs and Senior Beekman went 2 for 2 with a home run and a double.
Becca Tuck pitched a very strong 3 innings and her defense made a handful of solid plays. Final score was 19-1..... Was a great day for to be a Falcon!

West Catholic girls swept a double header from Hopkins on the warmest night of the year at the West Catholic field.
In Game 1, West made a great comeback after being down 6-2, winning 9- 6. Junior Becca Tuck gave West a gutty perfomance, shutting down the hot Hopkins bats when she needed to. Junior Dana Wila pounded a HR over the Center field fence in the 3rd inning, and went 3-4 from the plate and scored 2 runs. Senior Morgan Hipp scored 3 runs manufacturing several runs with her aggressive, inteligent base running. Senior Megan Beekman had the key hit of the game with a double to the center/right field gap scoring 2 runs and giving West the lead for good.
In Game 2, the West Ladies showed why they may be the best hitting team in recent history for the Falcons. Winning 19-1 in 3 innings, an incredible 14 runs were scored in the 1st inning alone, lead by home runs by Dana Wila, Sophomore Annika Roersma and Senior Megan Beekman. All 3 were blasts that everyone knew were out of the park as soon as they were off the bats. Dana Wila once again proved to be one of the area's best players as she went 3 for 3 from the plate and hit her 2nd home run of the night while playing flawless Center Field. Other notable performances included Morgan Hipp ... 2 for 2 and 3 runs scored .... Becca Tuck ... 3 for 3 and 3 runs scored and Megan Beekman.... 2 for 2 and 2 runs scored. (Her home run was an epic shot that nearly cleared the adjacent fence on the boys field!)
Becca Tuck again pitched a solid game, giving up just 1 hit. Defense was superb with numerous solid plays in the field.
Was a great night to be a Falcon!

Falcons Win: 6 - 5
West took a tough loss, giving up 3 runs in the bottom of the 6th inning, and leaving the tying run on 3rd in the 7th inning. Junior Dana Wila had another strong day at the plate and manufactured a run with her savvy base running. The Lady Falcons continue to show resilience, never giving up and showing mental toughness in battling from behind.

Falcons Win: 12 - 8
The bats came alive in second game of the double header with Sparta, with West winning in a come behind fashion, 12-8. West was down 8-4 going into the 4th inning when the bats lit up and our base running manufactured several runs. Junior Dana Wila lead the charge with 2 doubles and a single and scoring 3 runs. Morgan Hipp hit another triple and scored 2 runs, while Junior Maria Markules hit a clutch double in the 5th driving in 2 runs and giving West a comfortable lead.
Maria Markules also pitched in relief the last 4 innings, shutting down the hot hitting Sparta players. Was a quality win and one of the most exciting games of the season.
West will complete the 3 game season series in Sparta on Thursday evening... game time 4:15.

Falcons Lose: 3 - 7
West lost the opener of it's double head at home on the 1st 80 degree day of the year. Junior pitcher Becca Tuck pitched a strong game recording 10 K's, however, defensive errors resulted in 5 of th 7 runs scored to be unearned. Senior Morgan Hipp played a strong game behind the plate and hit the games only extra base hit, bombing a triple to the left / center fence.

Falcons Win: 17 - 2
On a rare warm night this Spring, The Falcons girls completed their sweep of Coopersville by an impressive score of 17-2 in 4 innings. Junior Becca Tuck pitched a gem, only giving up 3 hits and 2 runs. Defense was very impressive with only 1 error and many well played balls in the field.
Offensively, the girls hit the cover off the ball from the top of the order to the bottom, with every player having at least 1 hit. Many of the hits were line shots to the gaps, resulting in many stand up doubles and triples. In the bottom of the 4th, 11 runs were scored after 2 outs, putting the game away.
Once again, Dana Wila and Annika Roersma lead the charge with 3 hits and 3 runs each.... Wila with 2 doubles and a single and Roersma with a single, double and triple. Senior Morgan Hipp went 4 for 4 with 4 runs scored... 3 singles and a double. Senior Jesse Clark went 3 for 3 with a double in there and 2 runs scored. Senior Megan Beekman went 2 for 3 with a double and 2 runs scored.

Falcons Win: 11 - 8
The West girl pulled out another extra innings win against Coopersville, this time coming from behind, winning 11-8. Dana Wila lead the offensive attack with 3 hits and 3 runs scored, and Sophomore Annika Roersma had 3 hits and 2 runs scored. Megan Beekman hit 2 doubles and a single and scored 2 times as well. The Falcons will play Coopersville Thursday night in a single game to try for the sweep.

The West Catholic Varsity team won a tough and intense extra innings game against Coopersville in the opener of a double header at Coopersville. West lead 4-0 going into the bottom of the 6th inning, but Coopersville mounted a comback with a 3 run shot over the left field fence. The offense was lead by Dana Wila with 2 hits and a key double in the 8th inning. Jesse Clark also had a key single in the 8th to score the go ahead run.
Defensively, Senior Allie Kasperak fielded a gem in the bottom of the 8th with the bases loaded, throwing out the runner with 2 outs to seal the victory.

Falcons Lose: 0 - 0
The Falcon Softball Team traveled to Lakeview / Battle Creek to compete for the "Chuck Slauson Invitational Championship". Our lady Falcons came away with the tournament championship!!!
In game 1, we played the always tough Bronson team that traditionally makes it deep into the state tournament every year... a quality program. The final score was 11-8 as Bronson had a late rally, but our team met the challenge. Junior Becca Tuck lead the way with her first career home run for the Falcons over the right/center field fence, and Junior Maria Markules continue her torrid hitting going 3 for 4 and knocking in a handful of runs.
The game ended on a defensive highlight as shortstop Dana Wila stabbed a hard hit ball that was on it's way to left/center field and threw the ball while on her knees to first base to beat the runner by a step... truly an ALL STAR play.
In game 2, we played the winner of Lawton/ Lakeview ... that being Lawton. The Falcons won 11-1 behind the shut down pitching of Becca Tuck and some stellar defense in the field. The bats lit up again lead by Sophomore Annika Roersema, who hit 2 home runs and a triple, driving in a handful of runs. Base running and defensive plays all over the field made this a complete team victory and a proud moment for West Catholic Softball.

West played 2 of the worst games of the year against Allendale on a very frigid evening in Allendale... Wind chill was brutal and there was even snow in the dugout.... Many areas of improvement to work on in preparation for the rest of the season.

West finished the 3 game series with the Cougars with a convincing 17-2 win at home. Every player on the roster got on the field and contributed, making it a complete team victory. Offensive highlights included Junior Annika Roersma going 3 for 3 with 3 runs scored, Senior Maggie McDonald bombing a double off the left field fence and Sophomore Bella Bailey going 2 for 2 with 2 runs scored.
Becca Tuck pitched a strong game, allowing only 1 hit.
This game competed the 3-0 sweep of the Cougars!

The West Catholic Falcons played a very strong and balanced team in Byron Center... preseason one of the better teams in the area in class A.
West played BC even up in 5 of 7 innings, but had 2 innings get away from us. Was a good test on where our team is and where we want to be.

Opening game of the year was a good one for West at home against a nice Zeeland East team.
The Falcons were lead by Senior Morgan Hipp, who went 4 for 4 with 4 singles and 3 runs scored. Junior Maria Markules went 2 for 3 with a double and Sophomore Annika Roersma had a double and scored 2 runs. Was a great win to start the season!
